Even More Oatmeal!

An Alternative to the Hotel Breakfast

I have been traveling lately. Staying in hotels.

At home, I almost always eat the same thing for breakfast every day, so I thought I would package it up and take it with me. Breakfast in a snack bag! Five mornings in the hotel = five little snack bags, ready to go. Into each snack bag I have measured:
1/2 cup flaked oatmeal, uncooked
1 scoop GenSoy protein powder mix
3 TBS powdered milk
1 tsp ground flax seed
1 tsp flaked nutritional yeast
1 TBS dried mixed raisins and cranberries
nuts, or seeds to taste. I like sunflower seeds and walnuts (about 1 TBS total)
The baggies go into the microfridge at the hotel, for safe keeping.

When I want to eat breakfast, I pour the contents of the snack bag into a bowl, add 1/2 cup water and whatever sliced fruit I can scrounge from the "continental breakfast bar" at the motel.
These little breakfasts have been one of my food highpoints during my time on the road.

Although GenSoy is the protein shake I use, I expect another similar one would work. I like to get some soy in my diet, so it is what I have on hand. The sodium content is lower than some protein shake mixes. It does the job of boosting the protein significantly, and it acts as a mild sweetener in the mix.
